Methodology

Find the sale price and how much you save. This tool uses a standard, documented formula and runs entirely on your device.

Last reviewed January 2026 · Runs client-side

Final price
$84.00
You save $36.00 (30% off)
Original price$120.00
Discount amount$36.00
You pay$84.00
Formula used
Sale price = Price × (1 − Discount% / 100)
Savings = $120.00 × 30% = $36.00
Final = $120.00 − $36.00 = $84.00

Working out a sale price and your savings

A percentage discount reduces a price by a share of its original value. The calculation is simple, but it's easy to misjudge in your head, especially with stacked or unusual percentages, which is where a quick check helps before you commit to a purchase.

Seeing both the amount saved and the final price side by side makes it easier to compare deals. A larger percentage off a higher price isn't always the better saving in absolute terms.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the original price.
  2. Enter the discount percentage.
  3. Read the amount saved and the final price you'll pay.

What the inputs mean

Original price
The price before any discount.
Discount
The percentage reduction being applied.
Worked example

30% off a $120 item saves you $36, bringing the price down to $84.

The formula, in plain terms

Sale price = Price × (1 − Discount% / 100). The saving is the original price minus the sale price.

Good to know

  • Stacked discounts multiply, they don't add, 20% then 10% off is 28% off, not 30%.
  • Compare the money saved, not just the headline percentage.

Frequently asked questions

How do I reverse a discount?

If you know the sale price and the percentage off, divide the sale price by (1 − discount/100) to recover the original, see the reverse percentage calculator.
